NeoChat is a chat app for the Matrix network, built with Qt and KDE Frameworks. Users can send text messages, videos and audio files, use Spaces to group channels, and register or deactivate a Matrix account from within the app. It follows the stable Matrix specification as closely as it can, with a few documented exceptions such as VoIP, threads and some parts of end-to-end encryption. NeoChat is available for Linux and Windows and is delivered as a locally installed app.
NeoChat is a project of the KDE community. KDE is represented in legal and financial matters by KDE e.V., a non-profit association incorporated in Germany. The source code is open source under the GPL. The KDE privacy policy states that KDE software, as a general rule, does not transmit information from the user's device except as a result of an explicit user action; messages travel through the Matrix server that the user chooses, which can also be self-hosted. Earlier NeoChat development was funded through NLnet's NGI Assure fund, supported by the EU's Next Generation Internet programme.
