Proton Pass is a password manager from Proton AG. It keeps passwords, passkeys, credit cards, notes and 2FA codes in encrypted vaults, using zero-knowledge end-to-end encryption: Proton says it cannot access the data unless you share it. There are apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, a web app, browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and Brave, and a command-line tool. It also offers hide-my-email aliases and vault sharing. The service is delivered as SaaS.
Proton AG is based in Plan-les-Ouates near Geneva, Switzerland, an EFTA country outside the EU. According to its privacy policy, data is stored encrypted on servers located exclusively in Switzerland, Germany or Norway and owned by Proton or its subsidiaries. Part of the alias feature runs on European cloud servers of the subsidiary SimpleLogin SAS. The client source code has been open source under the GPLv3 since July 2023 and was audited by Cure53.
