SolarWinds Service Desk is a cloud-based IT service management platform for IT teams. It covers incident, problem, change and release management, a service catalog, a knowledge base and service level management, with requests accepted via web, email, Microsoft Teams, Slack and a mobile app. Its asset management side discovers devices on the network, tracks hardware, software and cloud assets and licences, and provides a CMDB with dependency mapping. A generative AI assistant, a virtual agent and an open REST API are included, with integrations such as Jira, Okta, AWS and Azure.
SolarWinds is a US software company based in Austin, Texas. Since April 2025 it has been privately held by Turn/River Capital, a US investment firm, so US law such as the CLOUD Act applies to the provider. In 2023 SolarWinds opened a Sydney data centre for Service Desk customers, citing data sovereignty. The pages reviewed do not name an EU data centre for this product. Service Desk is not open source. European organisations should ask SolarWinds where their instance would be hosted.
