Chatwoot is an open-source customer support platform with a shared inbox for live chat, email, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, SMS, Telegram and more. It also offers a help centre, automations, reporting and an AI assistant called Captain. It is aimed at support teams looking for an alternative to products such as Intercom or Zendesk. Chatwoot is available as a hosted cloud service or can be self-installed on a Linux server, with Docker, on Kubernetes or at a cloud provider.
The source code is released under the MIT licence, except for the enterprise directory, which carries a separate licence. The provider, Chatwoot, Inc., is governed by the law of the US state of California. The hosted cloud runs on AWS servers in the United States, and according to the privacy policy data is stored and processed in the US. Organisations that want to keep data within Europe can self-host Chatwoot on European infrastructure. In that case you decide where the data resides, but you also take on operation and security.
