Tidio: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Tidio is a customer service platform with a focus on e-commerce. Its help desk combines live chat, email, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram in one shared inbox with ticket statuses, assignments and AI summaries. Lyro, its AI agent, answers repetitive questions from sources the customer approves, such as a help centre or store data, and hands over to a human with the full history. Chatbots and sales flows start conversations at moments such as cart activity or exit intent. Tidio runs as a hosted service with a chat widget and apps for browser, iOS, Android, Windows and Mac.

Tidio was founded in 2013 in Szczecin, Poland, and has offices in Szczecin, Warsaw and San Francisco. Its privacy policy names two joint controllers: Tidio LLC in San Francisco and Tidio Poland Sp. z o.o. in Szczecin. Data is mainly processed in the EEA, but because of the US entity it may also be transferred to and processed in the United States. Tidio is not open source. European organisations should check the data processing agreement for sub-processors and transfers.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Tidio

Tidio is headquartered in PL and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Tidio scores best on data residency.

Tidio is closed source and hosted by the vendor. The encryption keys and the runtime sit with the vendor and switching requires data migration. Ask about bring-your-own-key, export options and open standards.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Tidio together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
