Krayin: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Krayin CRM is a free, open-source CRM system built on Laravel (PHP) with Vue.js. It supports sales management with leads, deals and forecasting, marketing automation, customer support and reporting, supplemented by custom fields, activity tracking and role-based access. Extensions are available for multi-tenant SaaS, WhatsApp and VoIP, among others. Krayin is meant to be self-hosted on your own server, running PHP with MySQL or MariaDB; the project also advertises a hosted option.

Krayin is an initiative of Webkul Software Pvt Ltd, based in Noida, India. The code is licensed under the MIT licence. Whoever runs Krayin themselves decides where the data resides: with a European hosting partner or in your own data centre, customer data stays within Europe. The website gives no information about where the hosted option runs. Security certifications such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2 are the vendor's own claims only. When self-hosting, keeping up with security updates is the responsibility of your own organisation.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Krayin

Krayin is headquartered in IN, outside the EU. Contracts and data therefore also fall under non-European law. The GDPR applies through contractual terms, but in a conflict with local legislation you have less certainty than with a European vendor.

Data is hosted exclusively in the EU, so Krayin scores best on data residency.

Krayin is open source. You can audit the source code, self-host the software and keep the encryption keys under your own control. Switching is easier because data and software are not tied to a single party.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Krayin together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
