Jira is Atlassian's work management and issue tracking product. Teams in engineering, IT, marketing, design and operations use it to capture requests, plan work, coordinate delivery and track progress. It includes AI agents and the Rovo assistant, and it connects to chat tools such as Slack and Microsoft Teams. It is offered as a cloud service that you sign up for online.
Atlassian has its roots in Australia, but since 2022 its parent, Atlassian Corporation, has been a US holding company incorporated in Delaware. Atlassian Cloud runs on Amazon Web Services. For Jira, customers can choose a data residency region, including an EU option covering Frankfurt and Dublin, as well as Germany, the United Kingdom and other regions; the default global setting lets data move between AWS regions. Customer-managed encryption keys are an add-on to Cloud Enterprise plans. Jira is proprietary software. Because the parent is a US company, US jurisdiction can apply regardless of the chosen hosting region.
