Tracardi: sovereignty score and 8 European alternatives

Tracardi is a composable, API-first customer data platform engine that collects events from sources such as websites, apps, CRMs and CSV files and unifies them into customer profiles. Rules model incoming data, and the platform supports segmentation, personalisation and in-time messaging. It is aimed at teams that want to build a customised CDP and is installed by the user, with Docker as the main route. Tracardi offers a free edition and a paid commercial edition with additional features such as extra event collectors and scheduled segmentation.

The Tracardi GitHub organisation lists Poland as its location. The source code is published under MIT with the Commons Clause. That permits use inside your own organisation but not white-labelling, hosting it for paying users, or selling products whose value rests mainly on Tracardi, which requires a commercial licence. It is therefore source-available rather than open source in the strict sense. Because you run it on your own infrastructure, a European organisation decides where the data is stored and processed.

Why digital sovereignty matters with Tracardi

Tracardi is headquartered in PL and therefore falls under European law: the GDPR, NIS2 and the Data Act. No foreign legislation can compel access to your data.

Tracardi runs on infrastructure you choose and control yourself. You decide where the data lives, including fully within the EU if you want — this is not a fixed hosting choice made by the vendor.

Tracardi is closed source, but you run the software yourself on your own infrastructure. The encryption keys and the runtime therefore stay under your own control, though you cannot audit or modify the source code. Ask about export options and open standards to limit software-level lock-in.

What this means for your organisation depends on your whole stack and context. The free assessment weighs Tracardi together with your other vendors and gives a total score, a heatmap and the main risk drivers.
