This category covers business intelligence, dashboards and data visualisation, as well as web and product analytics. Organisations use these tools to turn operational and customer data into reports, to track website and app usage and to support decisions with shared metrics.
Two different profiles sit here. BI platforms usually connect to your most valuable internal data, so the question is where that data and the semantic models are stored and who can query them. Web analytics collects visitor data, and under the GDPR and the ePrivacy rules the way identifiers are set, how IP addresses are handled and whether data is shared with the vendor decide whether consent is needed. The French authority CNIL, for example, describes narrow conditions for exempting audience measurement from consent, such as a maximum cookie lifetime and no cross-site use. Lock-in comes from proprietary metric definitions, calculated fields and dashboards that cannot be exported.
For a European option, check whether you can self-host or pick an EU region, whether the tool works without cookies, whether raw data is exportable in open formats or via SQL, and whether data is used for the vendor's own purposes.
